As a talented longboarder and California native, Julie Cox loves to travel and share surfing with others. In October of 2016, Julie opened the Traveler Surf Club & Coastal Outpost in Pacifica, CA. Traveler was born out of the desire to get warm after surfing and offers amenities including hot outdoor showers, surfboard storage, lockers, sauna, sunny garden, and heated outdoor furniture.
In 2019, Julie and her partner, clothing designer, Rel, opened their 2nd Traveler Surf Club & Coastal Outpost at Malibu’s iconic First Point. In March of 2021, they opened their 3rd location on Santa Cruz’s east side.
Julie grew up in Agoura Hills, in Los Angeles County, not far from the longboarder's paradise of Malibu, and soon became a local at LA county beaches including Leo Carrillo State Beach aka “Secos”, Surfrider Beach, Zuma, and County Line.
As a university student UC Santa Cruz, Julie earned a degree in Environmental Studies in tandem with a pro surfing career. She surfed Pleasure Point and the surrounding breaks, while working at Santa Cruz’s 1st all-women owned surf shop, “Paradise”. Julie surfed on the Roxy team and was ranked 5th in the world in 2007, 2008 and 2009. After surfing professionally, she was Director of the California Surf Museum, then worked for other surf brands before starting her own, Traveler Surf Club.
Julie also has her own line surfboards, The Jule Collection, which can be found at Traveler or special ordered through Julie. She has been teaching / surf coaching since 1998 and loves taking on all levels of surfers.
